Climbing Mount Pulag should be on your bucket list if you are an adventure seeker like me. Standing at 2922 meters above sea level, Mount Pulag is the highest peak in Luzon, the third highest in the Philippines.

Checklist of the most important things you should bring when climbing with up to areas with cold temperature:
1. Backpack/ Clothes/ Fleece Jacket/ Down jacket/ Shell (must be suited to temperatures of 0 – 7 degrees Celsius)
2. Raingear (Rain jacket/ Poncho) Trekking pants/ Jogging Pants (preferably waterproof, must also keep you warm)
3. Trekking shoes/ Rubber Shoes/ Sandals
4. Gloves/ Bonnet/ Head gear/ Scarf/ Malong/ Extra Socks
5. Earth Pad
6. Plastic bags (for water proofing of bags, clothes, camera, and other items)/ Sleeping bag/ Large garbage bags
7. Flashlight/ Headlamps/ Whistle
8. Personal Meds/ First Aid Kit/ Tissue Paper/ Kikay kit
9. Water bottle (at least 3 liters)/ Personal Trail Food/ Camera
10. Happy DISPOSITION, an attitude of GRATITUDE, and sense of ADVENTURE

We left Manila at around 12 midnight via Victory Liner Bus and we arrived in Baguio at past 5 in the morning. The chartered jeepney ride took around 2 hours to reach the first stop where we ate our breakfast. The chartered jeepneys are not the typical jeeps you see on the street of Manila. It has bigger wheels and more powerful engine to climb steep hills.
It took us another 2 hours to reach the DENR where you need to register, pay fees, and hear the orientation. I salute the people of DENR on Mt. Pulag for being proactive in protecting and conserving the mountain. This is the only mountain I’ve climbed where I saw them very active in preserving and protecting the nature.





From the DENR, the jeepney travelled another hour on a narrow road (where only one vehicle can pass at a time) to reach the ranger station. There were steep ascends up along cliffs and mountain sides filled with pine trees and vegetation.
We ate our lunch at the Ranger Station and started our climb right after. There are two ways to reach Mount Pulag – it’s either the Ambangeg trail that would take half a day or the Akiki trail which is much harder and takes two days. Although we've chosen the easiest trail going up the summit, the adventure and the experience of climbing with thin and cold air taught us a lot about high altitude climb.

 BTW, you can also hire a porter to carry your bag!

We arrived at campsite 1 after less than an hour of trekking and then campsite 2 after 3 hours. We've decided to pitch our tents at camp site 2 extension.

We got up by 3.30 AM to start ourselves off again on the way to Mount Pulag summit. This way, we can reach the summit just right before sunrise. We've reached the summit at around 5:30AM

The sight of daylight that very next day was overwhelming. It became doubly hard to trek to the summit with subzero temperature reaching -7 degrees Celsius that morning

Back to Ranger Station at last!
